Barcelona Guide Bureau’s guides: Carles Picazo

Why Barcelona Guide Bureau (what is the difference between you and other guides)?

Because we are professional communicators, we know how to transmit the essential in few words and we have a thorough knowledge of Catalunya, good language skills and we love our job. The training we get showing our city keeps us fit…. We are all official guides.

Why Barcelona is a “must”?

Because it offers rich and varied attractions of its own particular kind in a small space: culture, architecture, design, climate, cuisine, Mediterranean, fashion, music, sport, history…It is one of the cities with more world heritage sites and there exists perfect harmony between ancient and modern: Miró, Picasso, Gaudí, Miralles, Gary, Toyo Hito, Perrault, etc…

Your favourite place in Barcelona and why.

The bars at the foot of the Tibidabo funicular with their spectacular views over the city, relaxed atmosphere, music, cava…

Something curious about Montserrat.

The Benedictines searched for an isolated place to live close to God. Today more than 2.5 million people visit it every year. They have the oldest boys choir in Europe, created in the 13th century.

Something curious about Park Güell.

The name of the park is written in English to show that the idea of a garden city came from England.

Something curious about Sagrada Familia.

Not enough room here. Come and I will tell you all about it.

Something curious about Montjuïc.

Locals say that its a dangerous place as it has very little traffic so all learner drivers go to practice there.

Something curious about Gaudí.

He was a very religious man. He never married and he was a vegetarian. These things may not be connected but they are all curious.

Something curious about Catalan people.

Spain is the second country after USA with the greatest number of immigrants and Catalunya is the region in Spain with more. If you don’t come quickly soon there will be no Catalans left.

Three tips to enjoy Barcelona.

  • To make the most of your time, get a local host to show you the city.
  • Given that we have many million visitors we also have many pick pockets. Leave valuable items in the hotel safe to avoid trouble.
  • Be daring and go off the beaten track, (there are no local people on the Rambla).
