Seen from Plaça Espanya, the MNAC looks like a huge monument but the treasures inside surpasses the facade. The MNAC art collections are composed by all the arts (sculpture, painting, drawing, engraving, photography….). These collections are the best way to understand the general history of Catalan art from the Romanesque period to the mid-twentieth century.
Apart from the permanent collections MNAC right now has one more exhibition that allows its visitors to discover a part of Spanish History and particularly the civil war: This is war! by Robert Capa. Robert Capa was the pseudonym of Ernest Andrei Friedmann from Hungary, known as the first master of modern photojournalism. In the exhibition you will enjoy the work of Capa through photographs, handwritten comments, books and magazines. The aim of the exhibition is to go beyond the famous Robert Capa cliché of the Falling Soldier. The museum has also dedicated a room to exhibit the work of Gerda Taro, the collaborator and lover of Capa.
The perfect plan for a day is to go to Montjuic with a special guide form Barcelona Guide Bureau, enjoying the Montjuic and Panoramic Tour and take a walk around Montjuic after visiting the exhibition. So what are you waiting for?
