Today the biggest festival of the year starts in Barcelona. From today until Sunday you can enjoy concerts, events and parties all over Barcelona.
Special for this year is the show at the Teatre Grec on Montjuïc in memory of the folklore expert Joan Amades. Furthermore, this year Istanbul has been invited to offer the people of Barcelona a taste of Turkish culture. , Istanbul will be Europe’s Capital of Culture in 2010.
We can especially recommend you three Turkish events during the Mercé festival:
The exhibition of contemporary artists from Barcelona and Istanbul (La Capella), the concert with Baba Zula, a group that combines the purest oriental tradition with electronic sounds, and the shadow theatre show by Gengiz Ozek (at the Maritime Museum), an innovative artist in the so called karagöz tradition.
The music will play a big part in the Mercé 09. Together with the Barcelona Acció Musical, 4 stages with more than 50 concerts have been organised. The Mercé is also the perfect occasion to discover Catalan folklore with the “Castellers” (human towers), the “correfoc” (show with fireworks) or the “Dragones” (dragon parade).
