As experts about Barcelona, we do know where to go shopping in the city, so let’s have a shopping day together.
In the heart of the city, Plaça Catalunya and the Rambla offer a wide range of contrasts and different stores. The establishments of Bagués Jewellers of Masriera are outstanding both for their architecture and their elegant interior decoration: lacquer furniture, fine parquet, lovely expositions, have a look! El Indio was founded in 1870 as a fashion house. It is an huge store with a great variety of articles from bed linen and towels, to carpets and curtains. Don’t miss the Boqueria Market. It’s the Barcelona’s most popular and exotic market. Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the market sells quality fresh products from around the world. The Escriba cake shop, which has preserved its original Art Nouveau style, is the showcase for two famous pastry chefs in Barcelona. In the Rei I Ferran Herb Shop you can see medicinal and culinary plants and spices, teas, honeys, sweets and a line of high quality natural cosmetics from the last century. To buy ceramics, we recommend you go to the Art Escudellers.
In the Gothic Quarter you can find the famous espadrille workshop opened in 1941: Manual Alpargatera. They became popular thanks to Salvador Dalí who used to wear them wherever he went. If you want to enjoy a cup of tea you can go to Caelum. This tea room is in the old Jewish quarter of Barcelona. In the Josep Roca Knife Shop you will find a huge range of quality products such as knives, scissors, cutting boards, brushes, combs, cutlery, and all kinds of cutting instruments used for personal hygiene.
In the Ribera Quarter you can go to the Casa Gispert and discover their specialty: roasted nuts such as almonds and hazelnuts. In the Carrer Montcada, which is one of the most elegant streets in medieval Barcelona, you can find houses that are actually art galleries such as Galeria Maeght. A curiosity in this medieval area is The King of Magic, an authentic school for magicians. Around these narrow old streets you’ll find great contrasts between the highly specialised shops, the historical and traditional ones and the quirky and fanciful fashion shops whose design follows the latest trend.
