The Anarchy of Silence – Macba of Barcelona

Since October, 22nd, the MACBA presents the largest exhibition ever devoted to John Cage since his death in 1992. The Anarchy of Silence. John Cage and Experimental Art. On Sunday, go to the Macba and enjoy the “Musicircus for children”performance.

John Cage is an icon of alternative music. The Chicago Daily News described the work of the young composer: “People Call it Noise - But he Calls it Music”. Since then, much has been said about Cage but few know who he really was.

With this exhibition, the MACBA presents a historic review that was put together by a curator from another generation, Julia Robinson. The exhibition traces a chronological path through Cage’s artistic career as a whole, from the 1930s to the late 1980s, and features more than 200 pieces of work, including original scores, paintings, sound pieces, films and multimedia installations.

During the exhibition, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, you will be able to attend “The Musicircus”, performed by a group of musicians, dancers and circus artists who all act simultaneously and equally, without any order or hierarchy among them nor any distinction between the performers and the audience.
