The D.O and the Catalan Wine and Viticulture Institute (INCAVI) have presented initial conclusions to the division of the wine appellation into “zones”. This initial study includes descriptions of climate, soil and other conditioning factors. The aim is to scientifically define the area’s characteristics (geological, climatic and based on vegetation etc…) of each and every one of the zones which make up the Montsant wine appellation
The idea is to get deeper into each and every one of the “terroirs” of the D.O. and to understand and better recognise natural factors which, within the same wine appellation, lead to contrasting wines. There is more and more interest in “zone” studies as a way to promote the individual identity of the wines in a market which is more and more affected by globalisation.
